We have been using PC Res for years in all of our larger branches. The switch to CloudNine allowed us to cover the smaller branches in our network as well. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see that even some of our less “technologically enthusiastic” members of staff who wouldn’t have had experience with PC Res in the larger branches have been very enthusiastic about it since it’s pretty easy to use and gives them more control over who’s using the computers and enforcing the end of sessions. 

 

From our own administrative point of view, it’s easier for us to pull stats for usage in branches across the network so we can keep an eye on usage.

 

Our service users will have had years of experience with PC Res, which operated pretty much the same way so it’s been a frictionless transition from that point of view.

 

The ability to add resources other than PCs is something that caught our eye early on. While we haven’t pursued it yet, we’ve been thinking of adding things like the Community Rooms in our larger branches as bookable resources. 

 

Six months in, we’ve been very happy with CloudNine so far and it’ll be interesting to see how the system evolves over time.

Transition to CloudNine was smooth, we worked with Interleaf and our IT support over a number of days but downtime was kept to a minimum.

There were some issues regarding various rules which needed to be addressed over the following weeks as they arose (for example, opening times, My Open Library Access etc). Interleaf was very good to work with and responded to any queries promptly.

The platform allows you to view and manage all libraries in the one space, unlike our old system which was split up branch by branch. Time is saved each month getting statistics from management PCs we had in each branch.

We also avoid the process of sending in manual stats to our library HQ from admin PCs each month, all of that can be managed from the dashboard so more time is saved in Library HQ.

Branches were also able to remove the old admin PCs which we had in each branch to manage the old system thereby freeing up space. Staff find it easier to use than our old system – it’s been fairly seamless for members of the public too.
